Fivos Chalkiopoulos, Greece
Intro Unit Projects:
My name is Fivos Chalkiopoulos and I am studying architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. During my years as a student I have developed an interest in visual arts such as architectural design, cinema and illustration, and how these mediums can be used to explore different conditions with a complex language, more felt than understood. In a time of increasing inter-connectivity and social interaction I’m mostly interested in the esoteric and the instinctual, as an often ignored component of public life. I believe that images and designed space can play a crucial part in activating a deeper way of thinking, involving the senses and the distinct atmosphere of being in a certain place. This is why I am very excited to work in a environment with such a layered atmosphere and history as the city of Siena, not quite as a local nor an outsider.
Fivos Chalkiopoulos is studying at the Siena Art Institute for the Fall 2020 semester thanks to a special scholarship organized in collaboration with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
