Our Mid-Term Open Studio was a chance to showcase the recent projects and work-in-progress of the students at the Siena Art Institute and the Siena School for Liberal Arts, as well as our October residents, designer Sidra Zubairi and writer Elaine Sexton.

Ospite dell’incontro di martedì 23 ottobre sarà Sidra Zubairi, designer di Doha (Qatar) con un forte interesse nel sociale.
Zubairi, artista in residenza al Siena Art Institute nel mese di Ottobre per il progetto “Ambiente Digitale”, discuterà dei suoi inizi come designer di gioielli e accessori e dei suoi progetti più innovativi, che combinano pratiche tradizionali e artigianato digitale.
Seguirà un Open Studio con opere d’arte e work-in-progress dei giovani artisti del Siena Art Institute e della Siena School for Liberal Arts. Ai presenti sarà offerto un aperitivo.

Our series continues: StARTers – Assaggi d’Arte at the Siena Art Institute, informal conversations and aperitifs with free entry with the protagonists of the world of Italian and international culture!
Our guest speaker for the event on Tuesday 23 October will be Sidra Zubairi, a designer from Doha (Qatar) with a strong social interest.
Zubairi, artist in residence at the Siena Art Institute in October for the “Ambiente Digitale” project (“Digital Environment”), will discuss her beginnings as a designer of jewelry and accessories and her most innovative projects, which combine traditional practices and digital craftsmanship.
The event will be followed by refreshments together with an OPEN STUDIO, with works of art and work-in-progress by the young artists of the Siena Art Institute and the Siena School for Liberal Arts.

Open Studio organized on occasion of the 14th “Day of Contemporary Art” of AMACI. The young artists from the Siena Art Institute and Siena School for Liberal Arts will exhibit work-in-progress and artworks created in Siena: paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics & collaborative projects. Free entry.

Visiting the fascinating museum of our local neighborhood the Contrada della Tartuca here in the historic center of Siena with architect Annunziata de Comite and the study-abroad students of the Art & Society Course, excited for next week’s Palio race on Oct 20th!
We were able to hear from our writer-in-residence, Elaine Sexton, who shared a reading of her poetry and a discussion of her creative process, how her writing work connects to her mixed-media visual art.

Students created their own responses to the “Luoghi di Fuga” project, considering the idea of “place of escape” with booklets functioning as a platform to collect/archive personal observations/reflections. Resident artists Elaine Sexton and Sidra Zubairi joined for our group critique, along with course instructors Bernardo Giorgi, Annunziata de Comite, and Lisa Nonken.
Today we had the opportunity to stop by the Accademia dei Fisiocritici Natural History Museum, connecting to themes of collecting and archiving, and the intersection of local and global areas, different fields of study, and a vast array of eclectic objects, specimens and perplexing curiosities!
