Today we visited the Tartuca Contrada Museum, exploring local traditions and crafts, and learning about the history of our neighborhood. Our special guide was architect Annunziata de Comite, who was able to discuss the design process of the space, using a contemporary approach to showcase the heritage of the neighborhood and its multi-layered history.

Orientation Activities Kick off the Spring 2019 Semester
Kicking off the Spring 2019 semester, we had the chance to explore San Gimignano and the hill-town of Monteriggioni, here in the Province of Siena with our newly-arrived students from the Siena School for Liberal Arts and the Siena Art Institute!

There’s an exciting line-up of residents who will be guests of the Siena Art Institute for the Spring 2019 season. Throughout the year, professional artists and writers are in residence at the Siena Art Institute to pursue independent projects and to serve as inspirations to our program participants. 2019 residents include:

The first Spring resident, writer Caoilinn Hughes, arrives on Feb 1st!

Caoilinn Hughes’ debut novel Orchid & the Wasp (Oneworld 2018) was shortlisted for the 2018 Butler Literary Award. Her poetry collection Gathering Evidence (Carcanet 2014) won the Irish Times Shine/Strong Award and was shortlisted for four other prizes. She won The Moth International Short Story Prize 2018. A fellow of the James Merrill House, the Bogliasco Foundation, Faber and La Napoule Art Foundation, she has been awarded a Tin House Workshop Scholarship, a Literature Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland and The Ireland Funds Monaco Award. Her writing has appeared in Granta, Tin House, POETRY, The Stinging Fly, BBC Radio3 and elsewhere. She holds a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and she was recently Visiting Writer at Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Looking ahead to Spring Semester 2019, beginning Jan 24
After a great Fall semester, we are looking ahead to the start of our Spring 2019 semester, which will begin on Thursday January 24th and will run through May 17th!
