Snapshots from yesterday’s artist’s talk with Francesca Banchelli.
Francesca Banchelli, born in Montevarchi, trained as an artist at Saint Martin’s College in London. In her work she weaves together different disciplines, such as performance, video, drawing and painting, often organizing the various media in large multi-faceted installations. Fascinated by the dimension of unpredictability linked to the realization of public events, the artist Francesca Banchelli often relies on radical experiments with collaborative projects. Through drawings and painting she elaborates characters who then become the subjects of performances or videos, or vice versa, the drawings become the continuation of scenarios that are difficult to fully express through live actions.

We were invited for a special private visit to the current exhibit at SpazioSiena, La Firma sul fronte, investigating contemporary approaches to painting and intergenerational dialogue between Sienese contemporary artist Eugenia Vanni and the artwork of her father Giuliano Vanni. Our artist-in-residence, Danish painter Luise Sejersen, was also able to join us for the visit.
The Siena Art Institute’s weekly series of artists’ talks “StARTers: Assaggi d’arte” continued with a presentation by our current artist-in-residence, Luise Sejersen, Tuesday April 9. Luise Sejersen is a visual artist living and working in Copenhagen. She works with issues concerning religious structures, collective consciousness and the conditions of spirituality in contemporary Northern Europe. She explores the boundaries between different artistic genres and has lately been working with icon painting technique and video-performance.
