Stories of the Athenian Stay

(Spiridon Anemogiannis & Apostolis Tsamertzis)

One studies the ways in which various social structures behave, while the other explores the material and theoretical function of things. One is a visual artist, while the other is an architect. These are just some of the differences between Apo and Spyros. These interdisciplinary combinations are the core of this group. Their research concerns the investigation of the various communities and what are the theoretical notions on which they are based. Finally, some more basic pillars of their practice are concepts such as inclusiveness, physicality, the post-modern and others, theories that directly concern social structures and design in general.

Schedule:

Step one: A range of contemporary questions seek to be revealed rather than answered.

Within the streets, the walls of the buildings, lies hidden; the urge to re-identify ourselves “through” the city. The complexity of a living space that is continuously interpreted by the resident or the visitor, provokes a concentrated hearing. As the time goes by we have the opportunity to listen twice or more to the things we didn’t overlook in the first place. Images and stories emerge as we choose to favor, now is the time to make the call. It begins with the sound of our footsteps while we wonder around to find (the) where we are.

With support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the Siena Art Institute (SART) is launching Art Cloud Greece, a new Athens-based project during 2021 that sees the direct involvement of our former students as cultural entrepreneurs. The aim is to engage the international art community that rotates around the Siena Art Institute; to provide professional experience for young artists beginning their careers; to enrich the cultural activities of local communities in Greece with particular attention to marginalized communities. Participants are organized in small teams to work on specific project goals to be completed within December 2021.
